  • 1 cup warm milk 100-110°F
  • 2 teaspoons yeast fresh
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ¼ cup softened butter
Topping
  • 1 cup chopped pecans toasted
  • ½ cup maple syrup
  • ¼ cup brown sugar
  • ¼ cup butter
  • ¼ cup milk
  • a pinch salt
Filling
  • ¼ cup softened butter
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons cinnamon
  • a pinch salt

Method
 

Preparation
  1. In a small bowl, combine warm milk, yeast, and sugar. Stir gently and let it sit for about 10 minutes until foamy.
  2. In a large bowl, add flour, egg, salt, and butter. Pour in the yeast mixture and mix until a shaggy dough forms.
  3. Transfer dough to a floured surface and knead for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Place dough in a greased bowl and let rise covered for 60 to 90 minutes until doubled in size.
  5. Toast chopped pecans in a skillet for 3-5 minutes. In a saucepan, melt maple syrup, brown sugar, butter, milk, and salt.
  6. Mix filling ingredients until smooth and spread over rolled dough.
  7. Roll out the dough, cut into strips, and arrange in the pan over pecan topping.
  8. Cover shaped buns and let rise for an additional 30 minutes.
  9. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and bake for 25-30 minutes until golden brown.
  10. Allow to cool in the tray for 5 minutes before serving.
