  • 1 cup Unsalted Butter Use room temperature butter.

  • 0.5 cups Heavy Cream
  • 3-4 cups Powdered Sugar Add gradually for desired consistency.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat oven to 325°F (160°C) and prepare two 8-inch round cake pans with parchment paper.
  2. Sift together cake flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt in a bowl.
  3. Mix in room-temperature unsalted butter until the mixture resembles wet sand, about 2-3 minutes.
  4. Add buttermilk and vanilla extract; mix on medium speed for 2 minutes until smooth.
  5. Incorporate eggs one at a time, mixing until fully blended.
  6. Divide batter between prepared pans and smooth the tops.
  7. Bake for 30-35 minutes. Check for doneness by inserting a toothpick.
  8. Cool in pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack.
  9. Prepare frosting by melting butter and combining with dark brown sugar in a saucepan.
  10. Whisk in heavy cream off heat and gradually add powdered sugar.
  11. Frost cooled cakes and sprinkle flaky sea salt on top.
  12. Allow to set and serve.
