Step-by-Step Instructions for Cheddar and Herb Soda Bread
  1. Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). Prepare a parchment-lined baking sheet.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking soda, and salt until combined.
  3. Stir in the shredded sharp cheddar cheese and your choice of fresh herbs.
  4. Make a well in the center of your dry mixture and pour in the buttermilk. Mix gently until just combined.
  5. Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and shape into a round loaf about 1 to 1½ inches thick.
  6. Place the shaped dough onto the prepared baking sheet and score an ‘X’ on the top.
  7. Bake in the preheated oven for about 30 minutes until golden brown and hollow sounding when tapped.
